March 15 @ 6:30 pm
6:30 & 8:30pm shows featuring Stephen Martin & The Mitch Towne Trio.
The Jewell presents a tribute to the spiritual and musical legacy of John Coltrane.
Kansas City saxophonist Stephen Martin has developed a personal sound on saxophone characterized by a relentless energy and adventurous ideas. His music achieves distinct emotions ranging from sensitive and inviting to thunderous and enraged. Martin’s debut album, Vision, was released under his independent artist label SubtleStreet Records on July 27th, 2018. It debuted in the top 40 of the iTunes Jazz Charts, and as an Amazon best-seller.
Mitch Towne is widely considered as the “go-to” Hammond organist in the Midwest. His ability to move seamlessly between diverse styles has made him a sought-after side-man with artists as varied as jazz/R&B artist and Grammy-winning producer Terrace Martin, jazz heavyweights Ryan Kisor, Dave Stryker and Adam Larson, blues artists Eric Gales and Ben Poole, and multi-platinum artist Aloe Blacc. In 2015, Towne played organ on the track “Push” for the album “Velvet Portraits” by Terrace Martin, which was nominated for a 2016 Grammy for “Best R&B” album.
Marty Morrison is one of Kansas City’s most sought-after drummers and will be making his debut appearance in Omaha at The Jewell.
