Default weekly bso update

Greetings Blues Fans,

Ft. Lauderdale cancels 2009 Riverwalk Blues and Music Fest
It with is with much disappointment we announce the postponement of the 2009 Riverwalk Blues and Music Festival. After much deliberation the festival organizers have determined there is not enough sponsorship and funding to hold the annual music festival as planned. Numerous alternative plans are being discussed to move the date later for 2009 or begin working on a festival plans for 2010. Updates will be posted at www.riverwalkbluesfestival.com.

With Obama’s Inauguration looming in the very near future, the interview of Maria Muldaur in the current issue of Blueswax is quite interesting. Obama used her song in his campaign (not Midnight at the OasisJ).

Levee Town plays Murphy’s Matinee tonight at 5:30pm. ($8 Cover).
Levee Town is a radiantly hot rockin' Americana foursome out of Kansas City . Their music ranges from covers of Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Bob Dylan, and Big Joe Turner, to originals like Go to Heaven, The Winter song, and Forgive the Intrusion. The sound is a searing mix of traditional rock‘n’roll, blues, and rockabilly.

Tim “Swampboy” Koehn sent this note:
Thursday January 15th the jam will be at the " North Park Lounge" one last
time. We had some great times and made some great music with some
fantastic musicians over the last seven months. Let's blow it out one
last time at the "Nightpark Lounge"

The Jam will go on. Thursday January 22nd the weekly "Swampjam" hosted by
"Swampboy Blues Band"(Tim Koehn, Jerry Steinke, and Gayland Prince) will
be @ "Rum Runners" on 180th and Harrison Street in Omaha. It will run
from 8:30PM-12:30AM. Hopefully the start of a long relationship with "Rum
Runners" Come out and join us at this cozy neighborhood bar.

(Due to Rum Runners being out of the Omaha City Limits, smoking is allowed. What a country!)

The Black Squirrels play The Whiskey Roadhouse inside the Horseshoe Casino tonight. I think they are definitely near the top of Omaha bands. Their myspace says their influences are “Numerous artists from many periods and genres, but our prime influence is the rich tradition of American country music, whether it is hillbilly, folk, white blues, bluegrass, western swing, honky tonk or even rockabilly.” Give them a listen here and see if it is your cup of tea. I especially recommend song #5, "Hey".: www.myspace.com/blacksquirrelsomaha

Stand-up bass-player Charlie Johnson's new band The Royal Palms opens for Kris Lager Thursday and Friday at The Zoo Bar. You can hear them here: www.myspace.com/thefabulousroyalpawns

I may have to sue Devon Fulton for copyright infringement on my salutation ;-):
Blind Dog Fulton plays at Ruli's in Nehawka this Saturday. We start at 8:30pm and go to close. Please slide on by and show your support and consume a few libations. Going to Ruli's on a Saturday night is like taking a vacation for a few hours. The service rocks and food is great. "Get out and get into it".

We also just put our myspace page up and we've added 6 songs for your listening enjoyment.

Greg Koch & The Other Bad Men will be headlining the 1/24 Playing with Fire Winter Blues Series at The Holland Center. I have to confess, I was not familiar with Koch, before doing some research. (Koch rhymes with “chalk”, btw) Jeff Davis has an eye for “fast” guitarists, and Koch can certainly play fast, but he appears to be a lot more than just fast. Koch was regularly voted “Best Guitarist” in Milwaukee , at the same time he was also flying around the country demonstrating Fender Guitars. Koch will have Malford Milligan on vocals, the most soulful singer on the planet. Check them out here: http://www.nme.com/video/id/2KgB-ECxkG8/search/koch
