| Devon Fulton, one of the area’s best frontmen, sent this email re: his band’s gigs this weekend: Friends, Blind Dog Fulton will be playing this Friday and Saturday night. 11/21. Emerald Isle in Imogene Iowa. Fun place....it's one of our 2nd homes ... great people at the Isle. 11/22 Ruli's Poor House in Nehawka. Crazy place. Really Crazy. nuff sed. Both nights will involve great rock and roll, blues and ... maybe even some partial nudity. Both nights are 9pm to 1am. Both places have GREAT food so come early and stay late!! I'm Devon Fulton and approved this message. Local Horn-Band, Blue House, plays at Papa Joe’s this Fri and Sat. Papa Joe’s is a brand new joint inside The Hotel Carlisle on 109th & M Street. I hope to make it up there Friday night to see the boys and check out the new spot. If you are looking for something different to do Saturday afternoon, head 45 minutes south down I-29 to Sugar Clay Winerey and catch Hamilton Loomis’ 4pm show. Buy tickets in advance. There are only 50 spots for this intimate, early show: http://www.sugarclaywinery.com Jeff Davis has invested a lot of time in putting together a great line-up for the PWF Winter Series: First National Bank presents Playing With Fire Winter Series Sonny Landreth 1200 Club at the Holland Saturday, November 22, 2008 7:30pm Scott Recital Hall | Holland Performing Arts Center Southwest Louisiana-based guitarist, songwriter and singer Sonny Landreth is a musician's musician. His blues slide guitar style is distinctive and unlike anything else you've ever heard. His unorthodox guitar style comes from the manner in which he simultaneously plays slide and makes fingering movements on the fret board. From the Reach, Sonny Landreth’s ninth album, is the first to be released on his own Landfall label. On it, the slide-guitar wizard does something unprecedented in his body of work, as he collaborates with five of the greatest guitar players on the planet — Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Robben Ford, Eric Johnson and Vince Gill —In some jaw-dropping performances. Also making a house call is the legendary New Orleans pianist and singer Dr. John and Margaritaville’s iconic troubadour Jimmy Buffett. www.sonnylandreth.com/ Follow this link to buy tickets: https://www.omahaperformingarts.org/tessitura/production.aspx?perf=2999 One of my favorite discoveries in my music career has to be Mike Zito. BSO VP Ric Cowger and I met Mark Grubbs over at one of the casinos to follow up on a lead from a BSO member. We trekked down to the bowels of the boat, and there behind rows of slot machines was Mike Zito. Within about 30 seconds we all knew we were watching something special. In the couple of years since, Mike has had an album debut on the Billboard Blues Charts, was in a movie, and recently had a song nominated for the Pre-Grammys (he will find out in Feb. if it will actually get a Grammy Nomination). "Mike's soul shines brightly through his sweet bluesy guitar tone, rich vocals, and well crafted songs." - Aaron Lee ("Stone Blue"on XM's Bluesville) Visit www.MikeZito.com to hear his excellent version of “Little Red Corvette”. Catch Zito Saturday night at The Zoo Bar with Julia Knew and Sunday at BarFly at 7pm. Local Jazz act, The Bob Brown Quartet follows Zito’s 7pm show. (Admission is $8) Sunday at The Zoo Bar is CoCo Montoya. Advance tickets are on-sale now. If you dig guitar, and the great song-writing of area bluesman Dave Steen, get on down to the Zoo and have yourself a great time. Get out and get into it, I got to get some sleep.
