WIN A PLACE ON THE WORLD'S GREATEST BLUES CONCERT TOUR

BLUZAPALOOZA, the world-famous Blues concert tour that goes to Iraq to entertain our troops, is providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for one Blues fan to go on an all-expense-paid BLUZAPALOOZA celebrity Blues tour to Iraq and experience the Blues as few ever have.
The winner will fly with some of your favorite Blues artists nonstop from Washington 's Dulles International Airport on United Airlines to Kuwait City . You will spend 2 days in this historic city, stay at a world-class hotel with the entire BLUZAPALOOZA team and on your second day you will be taken by our U.S. military hosts to one of our bases in Kuwait for our first concert.
During the concert you will have an All-Access Back Stage Pass and a front row seat to be an official BLUZAPALOOZA embedded journalist or photographer with full media access on our tour.
After the concert you will join all of the performers in meeting the troops, signing autographs and taking photos with them and then you and our Blues artists will be issued camouflage Kevlar vests and helmets and flown by an Air Force C-130 transport plane directly into The Green Zone in Iraq where you will be housed in one of Saddam Hussein's palaces deep inside one of our military bases.
You and all of our Blues performers will spend the following week touring various U.S. military installations in Iraq , meeting and greeting our troops, learning about what they do and seeing things that most Americans never see.
Follow this link for all the details on how to win this trip: http://www.bluzapalooza.com/node/26/

Terry Sedivy passed this message to me: Iowa Blues Hall of fame vocalist Steve George will be in Omaha Saturday at Downtown Blues. Some of you should remember Steve from a Murphy's Lounge set a few years ago....he was a big hit! Steve has been teaming up with Lil' Joe and Big Trouble...the result is a VERY fun combination of music! See Steve's website: http://www.bluesforever.com/

I hope you didn’t go and get a date for Valentine’s Day to see Robert Cray. Apparently I dreamt that he was coming because I cannot find any verification of his tour coming to Omaha ??? However, Bettye LaVette is coming on February 14th as part of the Playing with Fire Winter Series! She is a very soulful performer that has been performing since the Sixties.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next Playing with Fire: Sat. 8/16 featuring Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Ricky Paquette, Runaway Slide, and The Side Effects. Be ready to rock!

Very tough decision this afternoon: JoAnna Connor ($8) at Murphy’s or Rick Estrin and The Nightcats at The Zoo Bar? If you drive really fast, you can probably catch a set of each band w/ Connor starting at 5:30pm and Estrin at 6pm.
The Joanna Connor Band is a frequent attraction not only at leading blues nightspots but also as a featured act at major festivals in the USA and Canada . Joanna has also developed a strong following in Europe, South America and Japan . As a result of many overseas appearances, in Germany she became very popular after being featured several times on national television.
Joanna Connor is a complete electric guitar package and vocalist extraordinaire. She covers the range of modern blues, slide guitar and blues rock with her own compositions very much influenced by funk, rock, jazz and world music as well as delta blues. Her sense of melody, phrasing and dynamics along with a very modern technique make her a very funky, soulful and compelling guitarist. As for vocal abilities, if Joanna wasn't a guitarist, she could easily be a lead singer in any band.
Rick Estrin fronted the jumping, swinging Little Charlie & The Nightcats, featuring guitarist Little Charlie Baty, for more than 30 years and nine albums. But now, with Baty's recent retirement from touring, Estrin -- along with the Nightcats longtime rhythm section of J. Hansen and Lorenzo Farrell and fiery guitarist Kid Andersen -- is ready to take the lead on his own. Rick Estrin & The Nightcats' sound, while still swinging the blues, is a harmonica-driven, rocking, guitar-fueled rave-up. The band performs the well-known, well-loved songs from Estrin's massive catalog, and will introduce plenty of new material along the way.
Rick's seemingly effortless command of the harmonica is matched only by his soulful vocals and remarkable original songs. Ever since he started performing his own material, it has become increasingly clear that Rick Estrin is a songwriter of unparalleled skill. His quick wit, coifed hair, pencil-thin mustache and sharp attire inform his songs in a way Cab Calloway, Louis Jordan, Willie Dixon and Elvis Presley would all be proud of. Blues Revue declared, "Estrin sits on one of the finest blues catalogs of any band on the planet. His carefully wrought lyrics penetrate human weakness with the precision of a boxer, though more often than not, he chooses to leave you laughing after the blow's been struck."

If you dig horn bands that play originals and blues favorites, Blue House has free shows Friday and Saturday night at Two Fine Irishmen.
Saturday night, The Kris Lager Band brings their Blues Rock with a Jam Band attitude to BarFly for a rare Omaha Show. Andrew’s Avenue opens the show at 9pm. Admission is $8.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another tough decision next Wed 8/13: Ana Popovic at Murphy’s or John Nemeth at The Zoo Bar. Both will be fabulous and both are early shows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CJ Chenier, son of Zydeco legend Clifton Chenier, brings his hot Louisiana band to Murphy’s Thursday Matinee on 8/14. I have been trying to book him for years. This one will be special!
