Default Cruise Sell out and more news...

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

If you want to purchase PRE-SALE tickets for Wilco's upcoming show at the Orpheum on October 11th, join their fan club (no charge) at http://wilcoworld.net/tours/index.php. If you are not hip to Wilco, you can check out their music at no-charge on that site also. They are quite cool, although not Blues.

I was afraid we might have trouble selling tickets for this Friday's Blues Cruise since we are up against The Allman Brothers at Stir, and it is the holiday weekend. However, the Cruise is officially a Sell-Out. If you procrastinated and did not get tickets, I would suggest going to the dock Friday around 8:30pm, and looking for people selling tickets, or, wait until 9:15pm, and see if there are any no-shows, or if the captain allows a few extra passengers. Although we have NEVER had someone refused boarding, I can't guarantee you will get on-board. (Note: September 30th Blues Cruise Tix will be on sale at the dock and on-board)

Remember Stephen Monroe will be playing a free show on the dock prior to the cruise. Also, the boat will dock at Midnight, and you will have the opportunity to jump off, or stay onboard for the midnight cruise, returning at 1am. If you get off at midnight, you could catch the last set of St. Elvis at Downtown Blues.

I had to kind of chuckle when I read the bio for The Allman Brothers on Harrah's site: The Allman Brothers Band is a band from Macon, Georgia, known as a Southern, Blues, Country, Jam, Rock band. The Allman Brothers Band has such hits as "Ramblin' Man," "Midnight Rider" and "Trouble No More." I suppose some people may not know who the Allman Brothers are, but I kind of doubt they would cough up the $40 if they weren't. Don't get me wrong, I highly recommend this show. I saw them a couple of years ago and they still got it.

Local cover band, Hard Attack, had their trailer full of P.A. gear stolen this week. If you happen to see someone selling used Monitors, Cables, Mics, etc..., send me an email and I can forward you the serial numbers. It would be great to catch these punks.

I hope you read this in time to know James Armstrong canceled his show scheduled for The Prestige tonight. Apparently has car troubles. He has been replaced by a singer/songwriter whose name escapes me. Kris Lager plays their on Thursday night.

This Thursday's Blues Matinee at Murphy's features veteran Dallas Blues Guitarist Andrew "Jr. Boy" Jones. Jones started playing with Blues legend Freddy King at the age of 16 and then went on to play lead for Charlie Musselwhite for years. Admission is $8. Rhythm Collective Reggae follows at 9:30pm.

The Weekly Blues Jam is still happening every TH at The Revue on 108th & Maple. I also just read that Downtown Blues has "Live Karaoke" w/ The Nightstalkers on Thursdays. I have not seen that band, but they have a bunch of veteran Blues cats in the band. I wonder if it is "Blues Karaoke". Somebody check it out and drop me an email.

Austin's Derailers play Bar Fly (formerly known as SHAG on 114th & Dodge) on Saturday night, with opening act Gerald Lee at 9pm. It ain't Blues, it is Honky-Tonk at it's finest.

Sunday at Bar Fly Electric Soul Method takes over the weekly Sunday night gig from The Jazzwholes.
Electric Soul Method split up last year into Son of 76 and The Watchmen and Lucas Kellison and The Assembled Soul, a couple of great bands from Lincoln. They are reuniting for this weekly gig at Bar Fly. Check out some samples of their Soul/Funk here: www.myspace.com/electricsoulmethod

I see we have Mem Shannon listed at Goofy Foot Lodge next Wednesday, but is NOT listed on their site or ours. You probably want to verify that one.

Have a safe holiday and get out and get into it.
