Greetings Blues Fans, This Sunday is the Blues Society of Omaha's FREE FAMILY FESTIVAL at Anchor Inn. This is the one event we put on each year that is intended specifically for families, so round up some kids and meet me at the river. The Anchor Inn is a great venue on the riverfront just south of the airport. Directions: http://www.anchorinnbar.com/map.html FFF Details: Music runs from 3pm til about 10pm, plenty of entertainment for the young ones like face-painting, balloon toss, instrument building, and more, plus... free Coke Products (thanks Coke) and free Fairbury Brand Hot Dogs (Thanks Conrad and Fairbury) for the kids. (Sorry parents, you have to buy your food and drink from Anchor Inn. Thanks to the Anchor Inn for providing the sound system and engineer. Headliner is New Orleans award-winning harmonica man Jason Ricci, plus local greats St. Elvis w/ special guest guitarist Andrew Bailey from The Jazzwholes, The Super Mario Brothers, Lincoln's levi William Band, and performances by BluesEd Bands. DeJaVoodoo will host a jam indoors as well. (This event is rain or shine. We will move it all indoors if necessary.) DeJaVooDoo will host their weekly jam tonight, TH, at The Revue (108th & Maple). We still need more Coffee Cans (to be made into drums) at FFF. Please just bring them w/ you if you have some. We also need more raffle prizes. Please email me at Terry@MurphysOmaha.com if you have any raffle prizes to be added to the list. Breaking news (ouch): Hacienda Brothers guitarist Dave Gonzales was in a motorcycle accident and the Hacienda Brothers tour including the Zoo Bar dates and Sunday Roadhouse show at The Waiting Room are being rescheduled. Dave suffered only a broken wrist and should be back at it in about 6 weeks. The man responsible for keeping the calendar on OmahaBlues.com updated, Roderick, would like you to come out and join him and some friends from their band The Jazz Circus for an evening of cool jazz at the PS Collective on Friday, June 8th, from 8 to 'round midnight. Hope to see you there. Encore performances of Zoo Bar Blues and Zoo Bar Backstage Pass programs can be seen Friday nights at 8 p.m. on Cox Cable 17 and Qwest Cable 74 (The Knowledge Network). The Zoo Bar programs will be followed each week by a documentary produced by UNO Television. More information on UNO Television documentaries can be found at unotv.unomaha.edu. The programs will be available for viewing only on Cox 17 over the weekend as part of Viewer's Choice -- dial in on a touch-tone phone and play the program when you want to see it. This service is not available on Qwest 74. The Knowledge Network is only available in the metro Omaha area. Below is the schedule for the Zoo bar June concert programs. Each program is approximately one hour long. The Zoo concert series was a cooperative production between NET and UNO Television. More information on these programs can be found at http://net.unl.edu/musicFeat/backstage/pass.html 6/15/2007 Zoo Bar Blues Sonny Rhodes & The Texas Twisters: Blues guitarist Sonny Rhodes tears it up on lap-steel blues guitar. Born to Texas sharecroppers in 1940, Rhodes has been playing since his teens. Rhodes lap-steel guitar playing is the real deal and has made him a name to know among blues guitar fans. 6/22/2007 Zoo Bar Blues James Harman turns in a killer performance of hot blues. Veteran Southern California bluesman James Harman and his band lay down a sizzling performance at the Zoo Bar's 25th Anniversary celebration. With music rooted in traditional R&B, Harman is one of the best singer-songwriters and harmonica blowers on the contemporary blues scene. 6/29/2007 Zoo Bar Blues Classic Chicago Blues: harmonica player Carey Bell is a Chicago legend whose long career includes stints with Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon. Due to contractual obligations with his record company, Curtis Salgado is NOT able to do the performance/recording that was scheduled at Bassline Studios on 6/25.
