I am fortunate that doing a blues show I get quite a few CDs. I kinda see it as a duty to incorporate as many local acts as possible into the format in order to assist in building a vibrant blues community in Omaha. Subsquently I get a lot of albums from local artists. Honestly most of them are average, hence the term "average," but occassionally you get a real gem. Bucky McCann or McKann recently sent me a cassette tape of some songs he's recorded over the years: a CASSETTE TAPE. (Remember those?). I gotta admit, I had low expectations, based upon all the basement tapes I'd heard over the years, coupled with the fact I'd have to drag out my recorder and hook-it up to the old HiFi. Looking at my desk this morning I saw Bucky's tape and realized I have a cassette deck in my car. So I grabbed McCann's tape and headed off to work. It was friggin' great. A mix of very early Chicago multi-part horn lines, some sort of 'Charlie' (the band) vocal influences and a very tasty jazzy-blues texture. The first three tracks blew my socks off - I had to tell everyone at work - who kinda looked at me kooky-like, so I threw on the tape and everyone was really impressed. "Where can I get this?" So, Bucky, this is good stuff. Can I burn this onto a CD in order to play it on my show??? Let me know, Rick
